Prisoners Union of Canada

We are looking into creating a union for prisoners in the Canadian Correctional system. The purpose of the Union is to advocate for prisoners' rights and provide a unified voice for prisoners in the public square.

The Prisoners Union of Canada intend to engage the government through judicial and extra-judicial processes to address the challenges and injustices imposed on prisoners by the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC). Our goal is to enhance the correctional outcome for prisoners while limiting the adverse effects resulting from incarceration. Some of the concerns the Union wishes to address are issues pertaining to living conditions, treatment programs, the appropriate and timely delivery of programs, health services, psychological therapy, meaningful education, vocational training and certification, adequate pay for work, access to community support and family, as well as fair representation on goods and services (i.e. purchasing system, Inmate Telephone System, cable/ satellite package).

The Prisoners Union of Canada will be an organization outside the scope of the CSC and therefore will not be subject to the restrictions inherent to the correctional environment. The Union is seeking the national support of Prisoners and Inmate Committees from all penitentiaries and correctional institutions. With your collective support, we intend to forge a better and safer future for everyone.

We welcome any feedback and suggestions that you may have.

On behalf of our Organization, we would like to thank you for your support.
We are looking for volunteers, participants, and partners to help start, organize, and manage this Union. We call on all prisoner support groups and organizations for assistance in furthering this endeavor. Help in the form of volunteer time or services rendered will be accepted and greatly appreciated.
